National Republicans are trying to convince former U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores to run for her former seat in South Texas. The National Republican Congressional Committee wants Flores to challenge U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, the McAllen Democrat who defeated her last year in the race for the state's 34th Congressional District. Flores flipped the seat in a special election in June 2022, but redistricting made the seat more Democrat-friendly and enabled Gonzalez to win in November. Flores says she'll announce soon whether she plans to run.
