A ruling from a federal judge in Austin will likely make it easier for third parties to get their candidates on the ballot in Texas. The judge blocked the enforcement of a 1905 state law that requires third-party candidates to collect petition signatures on paper in order to qualify for a place on the ballot. Monday's ruling stated that the law unconstitutionally singled out minor parties, since major parties aren't required to get signatures. Four minor parties sued the state in 2019. They will now be allowed to collect signatures electronically.
