Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial in the Texas Senate is scheduled to start on September 5th. The House had asked the Senate to start the trial by no later than August 28th. Senators on Wednesday night approved 31 rules for the trial. One of the rules excludes Paxton's wife, Sen. Angela Paxton, from voting in the trial. A separate resolution requires Paxton to appear for the trial in person. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who presides over the Senate, told senators not to discuss the case with others or among themselves.
