Man Fires More Than 100 Rounds At Officers During Murder-Suicide Standoff

A man fired over 100 rounds at officers after killing his roommate during an early morning murder-suicide standoff on the Northeast Side. The man later turned the gun on himself.

It happened about 2 a.m. this morning at an apartment near Ray Bon Drive and Midcrown Drive

Police were called out around 2 a.m. this morning for a shooting at an apartment off Ray Bon Drive near Midcrown Drive.

Police Chief William McManus says when police arrived, the suspect, who was a man in his 70s, opened fire on the officer, hitting the cruiser with about 40 rounds. The suspect continued firing shots for more than a half hour, hitting at least five police cars in the process.

During the standoff, officers heard a final gunshot when the suspect shot himself.
