The Texas Senate is advancing border security bills related to Governor Greg Abbott's call to get tough on human smugglers. The Senate Committee on Border Security approved a bill on Tuesday to provide a ten-year mandatory minimum prison sentence for human smuggling. In addition, the Senate again passed a measure to create a state border police force, as well as a new penalty for crossing the Texas-Mexico border illegally. The Senate and the House still disagree over the best way to deliver property tax relief to Texans.
