State troopers are leaving Austin and heading for the border. The Texas Department of Public Safety is putting a temporary hold on its partnership with the Austin Police. Troopers are being sent to border cities to deal with the expiration of Title 42. In late March, Austin police joined forces with the DPS after Mayor Kirk Watson requested state help. Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the troopers to help police the streets of Austin, which has been coping with a shortage of officers in the midst of a crime wave.
