A temporary ban on new short-term rentals in Plano will take effect next Monday. City Council voted to enact the one-year ban on Monday night in a joint meeting with the city's Planning and Zoning Commission. Several neighbors of STRs in Plano complained to city leaders about rental homes run by companies such as Airbnb and VRBO. Residents say renters ignore rules against unruly parties and bring crime to what had been quiet neighborhoods. The temporary ban doesn't affect the 400 or so STRs already active in Plano.
