El Paso Mayor Issues Emergency Declaration Ahead Of End Of Title 42

El Paso is declaring a state of emergency to deal with an expected influx of migrants when Title 42 expires. Mayor Oscar Leeser made the announcement, saying the city will have public shElters and public housing that will be used to temporarily house migrants. The state of emergency that went into effect Monday morning will last for seven days. Title 42, the health emergency restriction put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, expires on May 11th. Officials are bracing for a flood of immigrants at the U.S. border on the 12th.
