Governor Greg Abbott is calling for the pardon of the man convicted of the 2020 murder of a Black Lives Matter protester. In a tweet, Abbott stated that he was "working as swiftly as Texas law allows" to pardon Sergeant Daniel Perry for the deadly shooting of Garrett Foster in the streets of Austin in July 2020. Abbott says he requested the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles submit a pardon recommendation to him as quickly as possible, saying he looks forward to approving it as soon as it hits his desk.
