San Antonio city staff and elected officials are thinking about adding hundreds of new officers to the police force. An independent analysis says the city will need 360 new officers over the next three to five years. Deputy Chief Robert Blanton told the City Council on Wednesday that a bigger force could lead to lower crime rates and faster response times. The council may add 100 new officers in the next budget at a cost of more than $12 million a year. The city plans to apply for federal grant money to help cover some of the costs.
