Mississippi's governor is confirming a death toll of at least 23 after an outbreak of tornadoes Friday night that ripped across Mississippi. Governor Tate Reeves took to Twitter Saturday morning to say that search and rescue teams are still active as it's believed many more are injured. He stated that the loss in the hardest-hit towns -- including Rolling Fork -- will be felt "forever." Reeves also repeated a call for prayers for the victims and their families.
"At least twenty three Mississippians were killed by last night’s violent tornados. We know that many more are injured. Search and rescue teams are still active," said Reeves. "The loss will be felt in these towns forever. Please pray for God’s hand to be over all who lost family and friends."
Eyewitnesses described a wedge-shaped tornado which flattened much of Rolling Fork. The tornado was said to be about a mile wide as it moved across the state before hitting the town of Amory.
