The Border Patrol discovered 15 migrants in a train car east of Uvalde this afternoon. Two of the migrants were dead and the others needed medical attention. The surviving migrants were treated by first responders, with some needing to be airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio. Officials say they discovered the migrants after getting a call from inside the train car. After stopping the train, they found the migrants inside one of the train cars. The train was located on tracks running adjacent to highway 90 between Sabinal and Knippa. An investigation is underway.

"We are heartbroken to learn of yet another tragic incident of migrants taking the dangerous journey," said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. "I thank the Border Patrol Agents who responded to the scene and the HSI Agents who are supporting the investigation in Uvalde. We will work with the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office to hold those responsible. Smugglers are callous and only care about making a profit."
