A school choice bill is scheduled to have its first hearing in a Texas Senate committee today. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and many GOP Senators support the bill, and Governor Greg Abbott spoke on Tuesday to a rally in favor of school choice outside the Texas Capitol in Austin. The rally drew parents, teachers, and advocates from across the state. Senate Bill 8 would give families up to eight-thousand taxpayer dollars per student to pay for private schooling. House Speaker Dade Phelan hasn't prioritized school choice legislation in the House.
