The FBI says four Americans are missing and believed to have been kidnapped after they crossed into Mexico from Texas.

The FBI issued a news release asking for help in finding the four. According to the release, it is believed the Americans were fired upon and then kidnapped in Matamoros on Friday. Matamoros is located just across the border from Brownsville, Texas.

The FBI said the Americans crossed into Matamoros in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates.

“Shortly after crossing into Mexico, unidentified gunmen fired upon the passengers in the vehicle.  All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men,” said Oliver Rich, Special Agent in Charge of the San Antonio FBI office Texas.

The FBI has offered a reward of $50,000 for the safe return of the Americans and the arrests of those responsible.
