The South San Antonio ISD is trying to figure out how to close a $12 million budget gap. The district announced the amount of the deficit in a special meeting on Monday. Officials also noted that the district has seen a 20% drop in student enrollment over the past ten-years and is operating below capacity as a result. An executive with the South San American Federation of Teachers says the district shouldn't take drastic action such as closing or consolidating schools, but should ask for more money from the state.
