A memorial service was held today to remember the life and legacy of San Antonio businessman and philanthropist Red McCombs.
Red McCombs died at his home last week at the age of 95.
During today's funeral, Governor Greg Abbott says McCombs personified the Texas spirit. "It's not how you get knocked down. It's how you get back up. Even in tough times is what Red taught everybody," said Abbott.
"In his soul and his heart, he loved to laugh. He had one of the best senses of humor of anybody I have ever been around," said Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich. "His shoulders bouncing up and down as he either scolded or laughed with you. He enjoyed it."
Hundreds packed the Tobin Center in San Antonio for today's funeral. McCombs was known for bringing the Spurs to San Antonio, in addition to being a former owner of the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Vikings. He co-founded Clear Channel Communications, which is now iHeartMedia. And his name remains on the University of Texas Business School.
