The U.S. Geological Survey says a west Texas town was hit on Thursday by the strongest earthquake in the state since December. The 4.7 magnitude quake struck about nine-miles from Hermleigh, almost 100-miles southeast of Lubbock. The quake was recorded around 4:30 a.m. at a depth of about five-miles underground. A couple of aftershocks followed within two-hours. Two 5.4 magnitude quakes hit west Texas late last year, one in November near Mentone, and the other in December 13-miles from Midland.
