The state of Texas has carried out its third execution of the year. John Lezell Balentine received a lethal injection in Huntsville on Wednesday for the murder of three teens in 1998. While he confessed to the murders, his lawyers argued there was racial bias in his trial. There was also a delay ordered over a procedural mistake regarding communications with Balentine's lawyers. But all appeals were ultimately rejected. In his final statement, Balentine thanked those who supported him and apologized to the victims' families.
