A rate increase for trash collection in San Antonio is likely coming up in fiscal 2024, which starts in October. City staff broke the news to City Council members in a quarterly budget update on Wednesday. The Solid Waste Operating and Maintenance Fund pays for trash collection in the city, and since the costs of personnel, equipment, fuel, and landfill fees are up, the fund's reserves are dwindling fast. Customers pay for the service every month as part of their CPS Energy bills. It's not yet known how much a rate increase may be.
