Texas state legislators are considering a flurry of bills concerning how the state runs its elections. By the time the legislative session started this month, more than 75 bills related to voting or elections had already been prefiled. Democrats are trying to expand voting access, while Republicans focus on election security. In the 2021 legislative session, dozens of Democratic lawmakers fled to Washington, D.C., in order to prevent a quorum and keep the state Congress from voting on GOP-backed election security measures. The bills ultimately passed.
