A man is dead after being shot by officers after allegedly firing on them first at a West Side motel. It happened about 11 p.m. last night at the Motel 6 off Loop 410 south of Marbach.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the department's street crimes until was patrolling the West Side when they noticed suspicious activity in the motel parking lot. The officers noticed a man with what appeared to be drugs in his hand in the parking lot. They stopped the man and tried to detain him, but that's when things escalated.
"The officer attempted to handcuff him," said Chief McManus. "He pushed away, pulled a gun from his waistband, and fired what appears to be two rounds anyway from a handgun at the officers. The suspect is deceased in the parking lot.”
The suspect was hit in the upper chest.
The officer who fired the shot is a five-year veteran of the police department.
An investigation into the shooting is underway
