Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan says proposals to raise the legal age for purchasing military-style rifles from 18 to 21 won't have enough votes to pass the House. Phelan told reporters on Thursday that the proposed bills may come up for discussion, but aren't likely to pass. The gunman in the Uvalde school shooting bought his weapon legally soon after turning 18. Families of the victims have been demanding the raised legal age, but republicans including Gov. Greg Abbott say the move would be unconstitutional.
