The execution of a former Missouri City police officer for his wife's 1994 murder-for-hire is the first in Texas this year. Robert Fratta received the lethal injection in the state prison in Huntsville on Tuesday night. Fratta had joined a lawsuit claiming the drugs used in the Texas death chamber are expired. A judge agreed, but the Texas Department of Criminal Justice tossed out the ruling, and the state Supreme Court allowed the execution to proceed. The two men Fratta hired to kill his wife are still on death row.
