Three Texans in the U.S. House are among 20 Republicans opposing the election of Kevin McCarthy of California to the speakership. Chip Roy of Austin, Michael Cloud of Victoria, and Keith Self of McKinney show no sign of budging. Until a speaker is elected and the House can get busy, other Texans are being blocked from chairmanships of influential committees. Among them are Dan Crenshaw of Houston, who is in the running to lead the Homeland Security Committee, which will try to get a handle on the Biden administration's immigration policy.
