The Texas Supreme Court says it lacks the authority to force the state to process all the applications for a major corporate tax break that expired at the end of 2022. Comptroller Glenn Hegar's office was swamped with applications from businesses wanting to take advantage of the Chapter 313 tax break. Hegar said his office wouldn't be able to process all the applications before the deadline. Two renewable energy companies filed a petition asking the state Supreme Court to extend the deadline, but the justices said they don't have the authority to require the state government to take that action.
