The new Uvalde CISD police chief says he's focused on rebuilding the department. The school board unanimously approved the hiring of Joshua Gutierrez last month. Gutierrez says he plans tactical cross-training with other local law enforcement agencies, along with student and community engagement. His first emphasis is on hiring qualified officers. State law requires all school-based officers to undergo active shooter training, and Gutierrez says he'll make sure they have it.
