The Texas Rangers are investigating after a Hays County jailer shot and killed an inmate during an escape attempt. The sheriff's office says the inmate was being treated at Seton Hospital in Kyle when he tried to escape custody on Monday. Medical staff tried to save the inmate's life, but he died of his wounds. He was jailed on charges of auto theft, reckless driving, bail jumping, failure to appear, criminal mischief, and evading arrest. His identity hasn't yet been released. The officer is on standard administrative leave.
