San Antonio plans to give the Tower of the Americas some much-needed improvements and repairs in the year ahead. A recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation puts the estimated price tag at nearly 12-million dollars. The Tower was built for HemisFair in 1968, so it's a bit long in the tooth. The upcoming project will include improvements to the stair guardrails, emergency lighting, the addition of an electrical enclosure room, and repairs to the outside of the shaft. Work is expected to start in May.
