Texas To Play Washington In Valero Alamo Bowl

Texas and Washington have accepted invitations to play in the 2022 Valero Alamo Bowl on December 29 at 8:00 p.m. CST in the Alamodome on ESPN. The matchup is the 7th time in the last 9 years the game has featured a Top 20 matchup.

Texas is 8-4 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 regular season play. Designated the away team and occupying the west sideline, Texas returns to San Antonio for the sixth time. The Longhorns are led by Head Coach Steve Sarkisian and the nation’s leader in tandem yards in Bijan Robinson.

The Longhorns are 4-1 all-time in the Valero Alamo Bowl including back-to-back appearance in 2019 and 2020.

Led by Offensive MVP Sam Ehlinger, Texas upset #11 Utah in a 38-10 victory at the 2019 Valero Alamo Bowl. Then, #20 Texas routed Colorado 55-23 in the 2020 Valero Alamo Bowl behind Bijan Robinson’s 183 rushing yards on only 10 carries.

Washington is 10-2 overall and 7-2 in Pac-12 play. Designated as the home team and occupying the east sideline, the Huskies are led by Head Coach Kalen DeBoer and the nation’s leading passer in Michael Penix, Jr.

They return to the Alamodome for the first time in 11 years. Washington’s only appearance in the Valero Alamo Bowl was in 2011, when they lost in a historic 67-56 offensive shootout against Baylor.
