A Republican candidate for the state Senate is requesting a recount after losing a close race in South Texas. Adam Hinojosa asked for the recount on Wednesday. Official results released on Monday indicate Hinojosa lost the race for Senate District 27 to Democrat Morgan LaMantia by 659 votes. More than 175-thousand votes were cast in the election. Hinojosa wants a recount in Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties because of a large number of mail-in ballots. LaMantia says Hinojosa's request is "democracy taking its course."
