The trial of a former Border Patrol agent accused of being a serial killer is scheduled to start today. Juan David Ortiz is charged with the murders of four women near Laredo in 2018. His trial will take place in Bexar County after a change of venue was granted. Jury selection took place last month. Ortiz was initially going to face the death penalty, but the lead prosecutor recently took capital punishment out of consideration in order to shorten the trial from four-weeks to around two-weeks.
