The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has unveiled new look, temporary car tags in an effort to cut down on fake license plates. The new design features a Texas flag in the background as a watermark and other features to make them more easily recognizable to law enforcement.
Fake temporary plates have been a big problem in the state for the past several years. The head of the DMV even resigned earlier this year amid calls to address the problem.
“With the support of our law enforcement partners, The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles is setting a new standard for temporary tag security and design,” said TxDMV Executive Director Daniel Avitia.
The newly designed tags will be issued by licensed dealerships starting December 9th.
