San Antonio's affordable housing budget may triple in the upcoming fiscal year. The Neighborhood and Housing Services Department's budget was nearly $49 million in the current fiscal year, but the proposed new city budget expands the outlay to more than $150 million. The increase is mostly due to the city's first-ever housing bond, approved by voters in May. Most of the $100 million in bond money will be spent on producing new housing units. The rest will go toward preservation of existing affordable housing.
