Today marks six years since five law enforcement officers were killed in an ambush in Dallas. Four Dallas police officers died along with one Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer. The killings happened in the downtown area during a Black Lives Matter protest. An explosive device from a robot later killed the gunman.

"Today we reflect on one of the darkest days in our department's history," said Police Chief Eddie Garcia. "The events of July 7, 2016 forever changed the Dallas Police Department."

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson tweeted the city "was forever changed" on July 7th, 2016. He called that day one of "heroic actions and tragic losses."
