State health officials say monkeypox is evidently spreading within Texas. The Texas Department of State Health Services say a dozen cases have been identified in the state, three of them in people who haven't recently traveled, which amounts to evidence of community spread. The earlier cases were in patients who had traveled internationally. Texas health officials say it's not surprising that monkeypox is now spreading here, in view of the increase in cases worldwide.
