Gov. Greg Abbott is tightening up border security following the deaths of 53 people inside a trailer in southwest San Antonio this week. Abbott is putting the Department of Public Safety in charge of operating additional truck checkpoints. State troopers will set up the checkpoints along corridors used to smuggle people to San Antonio, Houston, and El Paso. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says the plan will delay truck traffic, but trucking industry leaders are mostly in support of the governor's new plan.
