Texans are being asked to conserve power this weekend. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says six power generation facilities tripped offline this afternoon, resulting in the loss of approximately 2,900 megawatts of electricity. Reserve generation resources are now operating. ERCOT says with unseasonably hot weather creating record demand, it is recommended residents conserve power by setting their thermostats to 78-degrees or above and avoid using large appliances during peak hours between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. through the weekend. In February of last year, the power grid failed during a winter storm, knocking power out to nearly 70 percent of the state.
