A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for today to kick off construction of the first phase of the I-35 Northeast Expansion Project. TxDOT officials say the billion-and-a-half-dollar project will stretch 20-miles through parts of Bexar, Guadalupe, and Comal Counties. To improve safety and ease traffic congestion, crews will build elevated lanes between the main lanes and the feeders. HOV lanes will also be added for buses and carpools. Construction on the project is expected to last several years.
