State education officials say school enrollment is still below what is was before the pandemic. According to TEA Commissioner Mike Morath, there are about 130-thousand less students in Texas schools now than there were in 2019. Morath says most of those out of the classroom are elementary students that never returned to campus. He added that the pandemic erased ten years of progress in the math and reading proficiency of Texas students.
