The legal challenge to Texas' near-total ban on abortion is now at an end. The Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday dismissed the one remaining challenge in a lawsuit brought by abortion providers statewide. A three-judge panel of the appeals court in January asked the Texas Supreme Court to determine whether state licensing officials could be sued for an abortion ban whose enforcement is not their responsibility. The state's high court ruled last month that the answer is no, so the Fifth Circuit says the challenge is over.
