Texas Files Lawsuit Over End Of Title 42

The State of Texas is suing the Biden Administration over the plan to let Title 42 expire next month. Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit last Friday claiming the White House did not follow the law when they announced they would end the order that allowed immigration authorities to expel migrants and deny asylum at the border due to the pandemic. The CDC invoked Title 42 under former President Trump in 2020, but the agency says it is no longer necessary due to the decline in cases and broad access to vaccines. Federal officials say authorities at the border could see triple the number of migrant encounters per day when the order expires on May 23rd.
