The Texas Democratic Party plans to apply for the state to be one of the first to vote on the 2024 presidential nomination. Earliest voting has been the privilege of Iowa and New Hampshire for a long time. But following Iowa's bungled caucus in 2020, the Democratic National Committee recently decided to allow other states to bid for the early-bird status. A spokesperson says the Texas party decided on Wednesday to submit an application. A change in the primary date needs the approval of the state Legislature, which is led by Republicans.
