Officials in South Texas say enhanced safety inspections at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cost the region over a billion dollars. The City of Pharr estimates economic losses during last week's inspections topped 200-million dollars a day. The number includes estimates of the amount of produce that failed to reach grocery shelves as well as the cost of delays caused by long lines of trucks waiting to be inspected. One economist says the state as a whole lost over four-billion dollars during last week's enhanced inspections.
