Texas National Guard Replaces Operation Lone Star Commander

The Texas National Guard is making another leadership change. The Texas Tribune reports Brigadier General Monie Ulis has stepped down from his role as commander of Operation Lone Star after about six months in order to focus on his responsibilities overseeing the Army National Guard. He will be replaced by Brigadier General Win Burkett, who was also recently named commander of the 36th Infantry Division. The Tribune says the change was directed by Major General Thomas Suelzer, who himself was appointed as the Guard's top general just last month. Burkett will take command as the operation to secure the border with Mexico faces scrutiny over reportedly poor living conditions for Guardsmen.
