A prominent Republican official is telling Governor Abbott to end commercial vehicle inspections at the border or risk massive food shortages at Texas grocery stores. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller sent a letter to the governor yesterday asking him to halt the new policy, calling it "political theater." Miller said food was rotting in trucks waiting to be inspected at the border and he predicted "untold losses" for Texas businesses. Prominent Democrats also added their voices to the mix, with governor candidate Beto O'Rourke and McAllen Congressman Vicente Gonzalez calling on Abbot to end the policy. Mexican truckers continued their blockade at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge yesterday, causing a standstill of commercial traffic on both sides of the border.
