VIA Metropolitan Transit will make use of federal funds to create a corridor for a new type of high-speed transportation in San Antonio. The federal government is providing 158-million-dollars for the north-south Advanced Rapid Transit corridor between the airport and the Mission Concepcion area. The federal contribution covers almost half of the project's cost. VIA describes A-R-T as similar to a lower-cost rail line, with big buses using designated lanes to arrive every 10 to 15 minutes. VIA says A-R-T should be ready to roll by 2027.
