The city of San Antonio needs lifeguards. City pools can only open for the summer if they have enough staffing. The Parks Department wants to hire about 180 lifeguards to work at pools across the city. The hourly wage of 12-45 makes it hard for the pools to compete with higher-paying retailers and other businesses. A 700-dollar signing bonus for anybody in the city's aquatics department, including pool supervisors and pool attendants, may help. Lifeguard applicants must be at least 16 and pass the Red Cross certification course.
