Judge Calls For Federal Investigation Into Abuse Allegations At Shelter

A U.S. District Judge is calling for a federal investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at a shelter for sex trafficking victims in Bastrop. Judge Janis Jack says she has lost confidence in the investigation being done by the state after her court-appointed monitors refuted the findings reported by the Texas Rangers. Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw wrote a letter to Governor Abbott earlier this month stating that there was no evidence of abuse at The Refuge Ranch, but the monitors said that letter was "premature." The Texas Tribune reports Judge Jack will ask for a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Texas for federal investigators to look into the allegations.
