The Bexar County Commissioners Court is enacting a $5,000 deduction from the appraised value of primary residences. Commissioners passed the bill unanimously on Tuesday. Interim Precinct 3 Commissioner Marilyn Barnard championed the homestead exemption, which will help offset rising property tax bills in the midst of soaring home prices. Even with the exemption, the county is anticipating an increase of more than eight-million-dollars in property tax revenue because of rising property values.
