A top official at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is leaving his post in the aftermath of an investigation into a shelter in Central Texas. The Texas Tribune reports child care investigations director Justin Lewis resigned on Sunday after what he called inaccurate testimony from the agency's commissioner and associate commissioner about sexual abuse allegations at The Refuge Ranch in Bastrop. In his resignation letter, Lewis blasted what he called the "political nature" of his job, and said two of his employees were "put on public display" to the state legislature and media. Lewis said he had to fire those employees, and the decision did not sit right with him. State officials say investigators did not find evidence of abuse at the shelter, but an employee allegedly sold nude photos of two underage residents.
